City gives go-ahead for coin-operated machines

The City of Alpine held its regularly scheduled city council meeting on April 19, and settled the issue of permitting coin-operated machine establishments, or slot-machine casinos, to operate in the city, with a maximum of 20-coin operated machines per establishment.

Gonzales secures $1 million for Center of Big Bend Studies

Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) secured $1 million in funds for the Sul Ross State University Archaeology, Anthropology and Cultural Research Center, better known as the Center of Big Bend Studies, during the 2022 budget process. President Joe Biden signed the budget into law on March 15, certifying these funds for the Texas 23rd Congressional District.

Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Jolie, a happy-go-lucky puppy who loves to lean on you for pets. She would make a great walking or running companion. Jolie and her sister Zora share their high energy levels and love for physical affection. Jolie is an eightmonth-old pit bull terrier mix. She is athletic, friendly, and is quickly won over with petting. Jolie bursts out of her shell as a playful puppy with a bit of patience and time to build trust.
