Petition filed urging mountain lion conservation

Texans for Mountain Lions has submitted a petition for rulemaking to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department urging action to conserve mountain lions in Texas. Organized in recent months, Texans for Mountains Lions is a coalition of landowners, biologists, and organizations working to improve the conservation status and scientific management of Texas’ largest wild cat.

Center gets adobe grant

Body
The Center for Big Bend Studies at Sul Ross State University has been awarded a grant for $12,500 from the Cooperative Research and Training Programs of the National Park System, Department of the Interior.
Archaeologist David Keller worked on a similar adobe testing project at the Alvino house in Big Bend National Park in 2021.

City discusses water use restrictions

The City of Alpine held its regularly scheduled council meeting on June 21, and watering restrictions and ongoing utility bill issues were some of the main items discussed. Water usage due to drought conditions was a main cause of concern for City Manager Megan Antrim, indicating that capacity was at 90%, and two water wells were not functioning due to pump and equipment issues, thus reducing the amount of water being pulled from the wells to meet demand.
