Alpine ISD approves budget

Alpine ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2022-2023 budget at its regularly scheduled meeting on June 29 that included salary increases for paraprofessionals across the board. Dr. Adrian Billings, Dist. 6, was absent.

It was a proud and patriotic day for Alpine Boy Scouts Troop 41 as they march their way to Kokernot Park at the July 4th celebration parade. A cool and cloudy day with light rain was in the forecast as spectators enjoyed seeing the red, white, and blue patriotic decor all around Alpine.

Library partners with Children’s Theatre

With costumes on and butterflies in their bellies, children became stars as they took the stage to perform “The Frog Prince.” In just one week students auditioned, rehearsed, and participated in acting workshops in preparation for the big community performance. Even shy and reluctant children broke those barriers as they took on the roles of their characters while building critical life skills – teamwork, confidence, and effective communication.

Ghost tour wins Texas Travel award

Historic Alpine Ghost Tours, a collaboration between the Alpine Historical Association and the Sul Ross State University Theatre Department, won a Texas Travel Award. The recipients were announced June 20, and were presented by the publishers of Austin Monthly, San Antonio Magazine, and Texas Music magazine.

San Vicente students engage in outdoor classroom

The outdoors is a kids’ playground in the summertime, which means they get to put on their explorer’s hat and discover Big Bend, all while boosting their learning curve in the process. That’s what San Vicente ISD set out to achieve during a two-week summer enrichment program held June 13-23. The program incorporated a combination outdoor laboratory, playground, educational facility, and tourist site all in one.

Fort Stockton man found guilty

A federal jury convicted a Fort Stockton man last week of one count of endangerment of a child. According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, on Feb.

Judy Perry, Alpine: Our church, First Presbyterian, is going to be handing out water for the parade. We will be out here on Fifth Street when the parade goes by. I like July 4th in Alpine - I always try to go to the park, particularly to the community band concert. My mom played in the community band here for about 20 years. Music was a big part of her life.
