City approves tax rate increase

The City of Alpine held its regularly scheduled council meeting on Sept. 6, and a tax rate increase and utility fee increases were approved.

In what activities did you participate in high school?
I participated in baseballmy junior year, and even though I had surgery on my knee, I learned a lot and made some great friends.
Who was your favorite teacher/coach, and why?
Mrs. Robie Golden is 100% my favorite teacher even though she is also my grandmother. She has helped me in all sorts of ways, and continues to be my biggest fan.
What was your favorite moment the last four years?
Maintaining healthy rangeland watersheds

Rainfall tends to be the limiting factor when considering overall range health, and one of the key factors to consider when making management decisions is rangeland watershed management.

Border Patrol 9/11 memorial coming up in Alpine

Big Bend Sector will host its annual 9/11 event on Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Alpine Border Patrol Station to remember the lives that were lost, and the heroic acts that were taken on the fateful day in 2001. In 2011 the agents of the Alpine Station retrieved a piece of the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers, which has been commemorated as a national artifact, and displayed it for the public to view.

WEEK Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Thunder. This sweet girl came into the shelter not long ago, and as soon as she did, she showed pure kitten behavior. She cries when she is not getting enough attention, and is full of play and curiosity.
