Amongst this past weekend’s Cinco de Mayo celebration, the City of Alpine and Alpine ISD held their election day, with polls open at the Alpine Civic Center. Alpine ISD’s contested race for the Single Member District 6, Board of Trustees was between incumbent Dr.

Today, May 11, the March 20, 2020, enactment of Title 42 expires. For those unfamiliar with Title 42, it is a WWII era public health law authorizing U.S. border officials to expel migrants immediately upon entry to the U.S.

Tiki Davis, a native of Odessa and two-time Sul Ross State University graduate will deliver the commencement address for this spring’s graduates on May 19, at 5:30 p.m. Davis, who spent much of his early life in foster homes, became a star football player at Odessa High School until he was accused of a crime at 17.

The Alpine Humane Society invites everyone to their annual fundraising event to be held at the Granada Theatre on Sunday, May 7. There will be a salsa contest, a silent auction, and live music from 4 to 7 p.m.

Dr. Andrew Alegria, the music director for Sul Ross and the Big Bend Community Chorale will lead the community chorale in a performance entitled “Big Bend Broadway Bash” at the Granada Theatre on Friday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m.

Early voting for the May 6 general election is complete and Saturday is the last chance to cast your vote for the Single Member District 6 Trustee for the Alpine ISD school board, and for the Ward 5 Alpine City Council seat.
