Alpine to host Wildlife Weekend

Calling all wildlife enthusiasts! The City of Alpine is joining the Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross State University to host the second annual Wildlife Weekend from January 31 to February 2. This exciting event will offer a unique opportunity to learn about and celebrate the region’s incredible biodiversity. It will feature a diverse range of activities, from expert presentations and guided hikes to familyfriendly events and engaging short film screenings.

AHS tennis courts revamped

Alpine High School’s tennis courts are getting a much-needed facelift thanks to the support of Ward 5 City Councilor Rick Stephens, who provided the materials and labor for the project. The courts, which had suffered decades of wear and tear, were in poor condition, with large cracks and gaping holes that rendered them unusable.

The Alpine City Council met on Tuesday, January 7, for its first regular meeting of 2025. Topics on the agenda included rezoning properties for commercial businesses, selling the Colima Addition adjacent to N. 16th Street, and developing water conservation and drought contingency plans.

Big Bend National Park and the Davis Mountains area, both popular camping destinations, are biodiversity hotspots boasting thousands of plant, animal, and bird species.
