Voucher bill passes Senate, arrives in House A bill to implement school vouchers in Texas sailed through the Senate largely on party lines last week and now awaits consideration in the House, the Austin American-Statesman reported. House Speaker Dustin Burrows, R-Lubbock, said he believes there are enough votes in that chamber to pass the legislation, which was defeated a halfdozen times in 2023 by a coalition of Democratic and rural Republican members.

The Big Bend Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will hold this month’s program on Saturday February 22 at 1 p.m. in the AEP room of the Alpine Public Library.

Body discovered in Alpine Creek

Last Sunday afternoon, the Avalanche received a notice from the Alpine Police Department (APD) that the body of an unidentifi ed male was discovered in the 400 block of West Holland Avenue at the bridge over Alpine Creek. At approximately 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, the Alpine Police Department received a report of a body in Alpine Creek just below the Holland Avenue bridge. Officers responded to find the body of a deceased male, and an investigation was initiated.
