Vehicle swept away after heavy rains in Marfa

Presidio County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle washed away at around 10 p.m. on June 28 at the Alamito Creek crossing south of Dollar General. An all night search for the vehicle was conducted, and it was finally located at around 5 a.m. on June 29 with a Sheriff’s Office drone.

A black 2015 Jeep utility vehicle with California license plates was found several miles south of the crossing. The driver, a male approximately 55 years old, was found deceased in the vehicle.

The search and rescue team composed of the Presidio County Sheriff’s Office, Marfa Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, and Marfa Volunteer Fire Department was still on the scene as of press time to recover the vehicle and deceased individual. The identity of the individual was not yet known.
