The Alpine Centennial School, which, from 1936 to 1972, educated predominantly Hispanic students, will hold its fifth all-class reunion July 3-5. This educational hub of the Hispanic community has held reunions in 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008. It will once again gather its former students together this year.
The Alpine Emergency Services Board held its regular meeting on Thursday. All board members were present, along with three guests: board bookkeeper Carole Causey, Brewster County Judge Greg Henington, and Mac Tucker.
Dear Neil, This oak was planted a few years ago. Initially, it was diagnosed with sun scald. Despite measures to try to help it, it just seems to be going downhill. There was new growth when it budded out this spring, but now much of that has died back. At this point, I think the best thing I can do is put it out of its misery and replace it, but if there is anything you think might revitalize it, please tell me.
The Alpine City Council held a special meeting on Tuesday night to appoint an Interim City Manager after Megan Antrim, who was appointed to the position in 2022, resigned last week. After press time last week, Alpine Mayor Catherine Eaves commented about Antrim’s resignation, saying, “I want to thank Megan Antrim for all her years in public service, including her time at the county and the city.
The Brewster County Commissioners Court held its regular meeting on Tuesday in the commissioner’s courtroom at the Brewster County Courthouse. All commissioners were present, with Brewster County Judge Greg Henington presiding.
The downtown property destroyed by fire just over a year ago has finally been sold, and closing has been completed. Previous owner Bill Ivey contacted the Avalanche with contact information for Greg Bow, who represents the new ownership.
