This is the time of year when families gather for fellowship, football, and gorging themselves on scrumptious food. 29th annual Artwalk spotlights West Texas artist

Artwalk Alpine, West Texas’ longest running arts festival, will be happening in the main streets of Alpine Nov. 18-19. In its 29th year, Artwalk Alpine will be highlighting the works of many west Texas artists and celebrating the arts along with several local businesses.

Henington prevails in county judge’s race

In Tuesday’s midterm general election, the heated battle over the governorship of Texas has finally reached its conclusion. Republican and incumbent candidate Greg Abbott collected 54.9% of the votes to Beto O’Rourke’s 43.8%. The other two candidates on the ballot for the state’s highest office, Libertarian Mark Tippetts garnered 1% of the votes, while Green Party candidate Delilah Barrios collected 0.4% of the votes.

Big Bend National Park makes top list

As travel continues to make a comeback, National Geographic unveiled its annual list of the 25 inspiring destinations for the renewed travel prospects. This year’s “Best of the World” feature is themed around travel destinations that leverage the benefits of tourism to strengthen their local communities and environments. Big Bend National Park was selected in the nature category.

On the northeastern range of the Chihuahuan Desert along the U.S.Mexico border, the 800,000-acre Big Bend National Park boasts a diversity of ecosystems and hosts a variety of plant and animal species. The park was established in 1944 in part to preserve these species, and it is the largest protected area of the Chihuahuan Desert in the U.S.

Boquillas crossing posts new winter hours

The Boquillas Port of Entry within Big Bend National Park, providing access to the town of Boquillas, Coahuila, Mexico, as well as the Mexican Protected Areas of Maderas del Carmen and Ocampo, will change to the winter schedule beginning Wednesday, November 2. The crossing will be open five days a week, Wednesdays through Sundays.
