James Bell, 7, and Asa Aufdengarten, 3, of Alpine have fun painting and showing off their creativity during the Earth Day celebration held at Kokernot Park in Alpine on April 22. There was plenty of fun for the whole family, with residents enjoying food, a bouncy castle, face painting, information booths, and more, along with live music by the Doodlin’ Hogwallops.

Members of Alpine’s Holy Angels Cemetery Association Robert Polanco, Elidia Polanco, Rosie Pallanez, and President Mike Pallanez presented a $300 check to the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department and Alpine Fire Rescue Chief Andrew Pierce, along with Alpine firefighter and EMT Zachary Davis, during the spaghetti supper fundraiser held at the American Legion Post 79 on April 23. The fundraiser and donations netted the fire department $3,000.

As discussed last month, the period from the war with Mexico to the Civil War was a great age of exploration of the American West. The Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo (1848) ceded California and the Southwest to the U.S., and the Treaty of Oregon with Great Britain (1846) essentially established the borders of the new American nation. It was now time to survey the vast interior, and discover its hidden treasurers.

It’s a fun day for both students and parent volunteers at the Alpine Middle School Spring Festival on March 2nd, presented by the middle school PTO. There was no shortage of fun for the whole family as there were plenty of food trucks, games, and more to kick off the start of the spring season. Running a church involves a healthy dose of prayer, hard work, and a dedicated team, and church youth groups are a fantastic way for young people to get together. They support one another in friendship, and share in fellowship, joining other like-minded teens and young adults to bring the inspiring message of God.

Ingredients: 2 large onions cut into rings 1 cup all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 cup milk or beer 1 egg 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 1 teaspoon salt Vegetable oil for frying Directions: Whisk one cup plus two tablespoons flour, milk or beer, egg, two tablespoons vegetable oil, and salt together in a bowl until smooth. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F.

Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Catrina, a long-haired female born Sept. 8, 2021. We think we see a hint of Persian in her face. She is small in stature and, although somewhat shy, warms up quickly.
