Border Patrol 9/11 memorial coming up in Alpine

Big Bend Sector will host its annual 9/11 event on Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Alpine Border Patrol Station to remember the lives that were lost, and the heroic acts that were taken on the fateful day in 2001. In 2011 the agents of the Alpine Station retrieved a piece of the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers, which has been commemorated as a national artifact, and displayed it for the public to view.

WEEK Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Thunder. This sweet girl came into the shelter not long ago, and as soon as she did, she showed pure kitten behavior. She cries when she is not getting enough attention, and is full of play and curiosity.

Dear Neil: Thanks for the information on trimming tropical milkweed plants by early September. I know that the wild native milkweed is preferable to the tropical type for monarchs, but where can I buy the plants or seeds?
