Applications will be accepted beginning March 9 for Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) grants from the City of Alpine for the 2026-2027 fiscal year. Visitor events and other projects that draw overnight visits to the City are eligible for funding consideration, according to the requirements of state law.
In celebration of International Dark Skies Week, the McDonald Observatory, along with Alpine, Fort Davis, Presidio, Terlingua, and others, will hold star parties, telescope demonstrations, public talks, meteorite demonstrations, owl walks, and much more.
The Alpine Track and Field Team traveled to Fort Stockton on Saturday to compete in the 82nd Annual Comanche Relays, with the girls’ varsity and JV capturing the division championship with 120 points and the boys’ JV earning a 2nd-place team finish with 115 points. The girls outperformed Midland Christian, Presidio, Fort Stockton, Kermit, Water Valley, and Pecos, earning first-place finishes in the 400m, 3200m, long jump, triple jump, and with heavy scoring in the 1600m and relay events.
