The “Coolest 4th of July Festival” is set to take place in Fort Davis beginning Friday, June 30. It will continue all weekend, with food, fun, a parade, tunes to dance the night away, and it culminates on Sunday night with the fireworks show.

Alpine ISD gets much needed financial boost

Alpine ISD in collaboration with the Permian Basin Area Foundation is getting a muchneeded financial assist through a program entitled the Alpine Public Education Fund. This fund allows the district to identify and help fund projects that are needs versus wants.

Alpine ISD cheerleaders conquer cheer camp

The Alpine High School and Alpine Middle School cheerleading squads participated at the NCA Summer Cheer Camp in Lubbock last week. The middle school squad received one spirit stick, a technical excellence award in motions, excellent ribbons for game day cheer and chant, a superior ribbon for band chant, an NCA National Championship bid, NFHS squad credentialing, an overall spirit award, and top team honors for a large junior high squad game day cheer.

Cowboys sweep Wind, drop series in Tucson

Playing their first home series since the passing of pitcher Jared Strait, the Alpine o6 Cowboys swept the Garden City Wind at Kokernot Field June 12-14. Alpine trailed early in each game but managed to complete the comeback through clutch hits and capitalizing on Garden City’s mistakes.

Amateur Radio ‘Field Day’ June 24-25

Members of the Big Bend Amateur Radio Club will be participating in the national amateur radio Field Day exercise, June 24 – 25 at the Double Diamond Pavilion, six miles south of Alpine on Hwy 118. Since 1933, ham radio operators across North America have established temporary ham radio stations in public locations during Field Day to showcase the science and skill of amateur radio. This event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.

58th season of Theatre of the Big Bend set for July 7

The 58th season of Theatre of the Big Bend is set for July 7 at 8 p.m. This year’s summer production scheduled for the outdoor theatre is titled “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” by Rachel Sheinkin. The score for the production is by William Finn.
