The 8th Annual Wild West Night hosted by the Sunshine House will be held Saturday, October 14, and Executive Director Kerie van Zeyst expects it to be the most successful thus far. The Sunshine House’s Wild West Night is their biggest fundraiser of the year, and the funds raised go to help keep their doors open and their programs running.

What is broadband, and what does it mean for rural Texans? To put it simply, broadband is any cables, fiber optics, wiring, or any other permanent infrastructure that allows not only for wireless connectivity and internet connection to individual locations, but also includes advanced telecommunications capability. What that means for rural Texas, and in particular the Big Bend area, is establishing connections that make our area healthier, smarter, and safer.

Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Sadie. At just under a year old, this pretty German Shepherd girl is a big fan of ear scratches. She’d really like to have her own family loving on her every day. Picked up as a stray, she’s been at the shelter for several months now and dreams every day of a home. Right now, there are many different breeds of dogs at the shelter, and all hope to find love and happiness in a home.

While slightly lower than numbers in 2021, enrollment at Sul Ross is up on the Alpine campus this year, but at its lowest since 2021 on the Rio Grande campus. The total enrollment numbers for 2023 currently is 2,136 students. This information was received from the Director of University Communications, Betse Esparza.
