New archeological find in Big Bend

A recent archeological dig in Big Bend has uncovered an almost completely intact hunting kit, that archeologists believe could indicate human settlement occurred in the region earlier than previously thought. Found inside a remote cave in Big Bend National Park, the Center for Big Bend Studies Director Bryon Schroeder believes this new find can be applied to other dig sites within the Big Bend region.

Virdell’s Alpine dream in full swing

There are a hundred different ways to measure a coach’s impact — but for Alpine Lady Bucks Head Coach Christopher Virdell, win number 100 came with more than just a notch in the stat book. It came with balloons, a banner, and a wave of appreciation for a career built on more than just victories.

Alpine earns District title for boys’, girls’ track

In a near repeat of the Fightin’ Buck Relays, Alpine took the track and field by storm at Thursday’s District meet held at Buck Stadium, with the boys’ and girls’ teams earning the District title.

Porky came into the shelter in late January this year, a week after his companion Sweetie. They were both an urgent rescue as they had porcupine quills embedded in their faces that were beginning to become infected. You can see some pink spots on his muzzle from the scars of where the quills were. Porky was scared and skittish when he was first captured, but within a day, he was ready to make new friends after having veterinary treatment and a couple of good meals. He has done well with children and is very gentle with them.

AHS golf takes district

On Monday, the Alpine High School boys’ and girls’ golf teams completed round two of their district golf tournament and ended the day as District Champions. In last week’s round, the boys’ team finished the day with a total score of 353.
