Dorathy Williams, 91, of Terlingua, passed away peacefully on October 6. She was born on December 2, 1933, in Owosso, Michigan, to Allen and Evelyn Oates.

Enrique Rodriguez Monclova, affectionately known as Castro, passed away on October 10, 2025, in Alpine. Born on February 24, 1947, Enrique lived a life filled with service, love, and dedication to his family and community.

Varsity XC advances to Regionals

The Alpine High School varsity crosscountry team traveled to Tornillo last Thursday to compete in the District 4-3A championship. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams were successful, compiling enough points to advance to the Regional competition in Lubbock on Monday, October 20.
These varsity cross-country runners earned individual medals at last Thursday’s District 4-3A meet in Tornillo. NPSOT Big Bend to discuss insects

The Big Bend Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will hold a program on Saturday, October 25, in the AEP room of the Alpine Public Library at 1 p.m. Wizzy Brown, Senior Extension Program Specialist with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, will present “Insects found on native plants in the Big Bend area.” She will discuss common insects and other arthropods found in the Alpine region, including butterflies, moths, bees, wasps, ants, true bugs, dragonflies, and damselfl ies.

Landowners across West Texas are invited to attend a one-day workshop in Alpine on November 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., designed to help them navigate a rapidly changing landscape of land use opportunities.

Trio of judges to rule on congressional map The same plaintiffs who are challenging the state’s 2021 congressional map are asking a panel of three federal judges to block the use of the new GOPapproved districts in the March midterms. The Texas Tribune reported that this is the first legal test for the redrawn districts, which are intended to increase the number of Texas congressional seats held by Republicans by five.
