Alpine resident, Stacy Harrison, died January 23 at the age of 44. Stacy was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, and friend.

Born to Frances Fellows and Mike Harrison in Alpine, Stacy attended elementary school in Marfa before moving to Johnson City, where she graduated from Johnson City High School in 1999. After graduation, Stacy lived in other parts of Texas but always found her way back home to West Texas.

Manuel Gallego Ybarra, affectionately known as "Manny," "Mel," or "Popo," was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He passed away peacefully at home on February 8, surrounded by his loving family. Born on May 8, 1939, in Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico, Manuel later made his home in Alpine.

Minerva Benavidez Alonzo, aged 71, passed away peacefully on January 29 in San Antonio. Born to Domingo Benavidez and Lorenza Abreo Rosa, Minerva was preceded in death by both her parents, sisters Adelinda and Yolanda; brothers Alfredo, Mario, and Gilberto; son Juan Luis; her loving partner of 31 years, Jesus Franco; and great-grandchildren Jack, Autumn, Witten, Kailee, & Jayden

On Friday, January 31st, we received the devastating news that the Brewster County Appraisal District failed the Texas Comptroller’s Property Value Study (PVS) for the sixth straight year. This CAD failure will result in $700,000+ in state funding being withheld from Alpine ISD for the 2024-25 school year, which is a 7% midyear decrease in our revenue.
