Candidate filing for the May 3 general election ends tomorrow, February 14 at 5 p.m. Interested parties who would like to run in the May election for positions on the Alpine City Council or the Alpine Independent School District Board of Trustees must complete their applications by 5 p.m.

Seriously looking at plants

How will you get your food today? Most of the public’s answer to this simple question is through trade. We trade our service or time for currency, which in turn can be traded for products such as food. It can be argued that one of the most important products we trade is food, and modern agriculture has enabled the success of large-scale communities. If each person or family had to farm their own plants or ranch their own livestock, they would not have time or resources to conduct other necessary services for themselves. Thus, the practice of trading one’s product for another necessary product became common in larger communities and is still part of the backbone of society today. However, before agriculture and trade, how were food sources collected and maintained for survival?
