Cason takes gold in Crane

Hatfield Cason and Molly Garrett had stellar performances in the 5K at the Crane Invitational over Labor Day weekend. Earlier in the season, Cason ran a 16:16 in Pecos, but the Pecos meet was a road race and was slightly under the 5K distance.

AHS welcomes new counselor

For the past 17 years, Amy White has served students in the Big Bend area as a coach, a teacher, and a principal. White began her career in education in Alpine before transferring her talents to Marfa, where she taught and coached and ultimately became the principal at Marfa Elementary. She has now stepped into the role of counselor at Alpine High School.

SRSU announces fall schedule for Guided Hikes on Hancock Hill

Sul Ross State University has announced the schedule for the Fall 2024 series of Guided Hikes on Hancock Hill. Each Guided Hike is led by a Subject Matter Expert (SME) from Sul Ross State. Themes vary, but participants will learn about the history of Alpine and SRSU and the natural history of Hancock Hill while taking in stunning views. The 1.8-mile hike is moderately strenuous and begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday mornings and lasts approximately two hours.

September 6 Holy Angels Cemetery Association Enchilada Fundraiser, Serving begins at 3:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Parish Hall to benefit the upkeep of the Holy Angels Cemetery. Plates are $10 each, including enchiladas, rice, beans, salad, dessert, and a drink.
