This past Saturday, the Alpine Public Library’s fundraising event, Dancing with Big Bend’s Stars was a success. Seven teams competed in the event held at the Granada Theatre on June 8.

WEEK Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Rex. Hello, I’m Rex. I have a whole heap of get-up-and-go and I’m not short on affection either. Don’t be intimidated by my bark I know it’s quite loud but it’s just to make sure that you will be looking my way. Runs or walks…well who am I kidding? It’s going to be a run. I love, love, love it all. I also enjoy a good tub of water on a nice hot summer day. So, let’s go and adventure and hike with stops by the river for a dip.

GARDENER’S MAILBAG Dear Neil: How can I get potted bougainvilleas to rebloom in the summer? I was advised to use a fertilizer that is high in phosphorus. I’m not sure it has helped.

In what activities did you participate in high school? I have participated in Cross Country and Track and Field all four years. I have also participated in basketball, Student Council, and I am in the National Honor Society.

Traditionally we have an annual conference in June where, among other business, the bishop sets the new assignments of clergy. So there are always Methodist preachers preaching first sermons in July, looking at what new chapter has begun. I am not moving this year, but I hear lots of conversations about new beginnings.

With inflation almost as high as temperatures in Texas, money saving meals are a no-brainer. Saving money, all while not heating up your kitchen when feeding your family is the same.
