What difference does it make that we believe?

By the time this devotional is printed in the newspaper, Easter 2023 will already be in the past. Some people may have given only fleeting attention to the resurrection of Christ. Others may be like a pastor I read about, who was so caught up with the reality that Jesus is alive that the church he pastors, now sings an Easter song every Sunday. That pastor had a transforming experience as he contemplated the meaning of the resurrection.

Juan Anaya Chavez, Jr. of Alpine, passed away on May 12 at Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Fort Stockton, at the age of 91 from health issues.

Oscar Hinojos, 65, of Alpine, passed away on May 8. Oscar, known to all as Ruco or Rucito, was born to Hermelindo and Marie Ida (La Negra) Hinojos, on May 17, 1957, in Alpine. Services will be at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine. Rosary, June 23 at 7 p.m. Mass on June 24 at 10 a.m. Services provided by Martinez Funeral Home from Odessa, Texas.

New hires, possible cuts, and a grim financial outlook steered the course of last Monday nights regularly scheduled Alpine ISD school board meeting. With all board members in attendance except Single Member District 4, Jimmy Morris, the meeting started with the canvassing of the votes for the May school board election.
