Lady Bucks end season with impressive record

Body
Although the Lady Bucks’ softball team would fall to Littlefield last Friday during their Bi-District bid, they had an impressive season of 18-10. Game one would see Littlefield on the board first, leading by three until a homerun by Kody Hawkins in the bottom of the third would bring in Jacee Portillo and Sierra Ruckman and tie the game.

Can we solve the world’s biggest problem?

Body
An episode of the Freakonomics Radio podcast I heard focused on a team of brilliant researchers competing for a $100 million grant from the MacArthur Foundation. The prize will be given to the group with the best idea for curing one social problem anywhere in the world. Angela Duckworth and Katy Milkman are competing for the prize because they believe they’ve identifi ed the biggest problem in the world—us. Even when we possess the right knowledge and resources, they say, humans still make bad choices that hurt themselves and others. Duckworth and Milkman, along with an allstar team of academics, think they can find the solution by perfecting the science of behavior change.

West Texans give back to the land they love

Body
Carl Ryan fell long and hard for the Davis Mountains when he was just 10 years old. Decades later, that part of West Texas remains close to his heart. After reflecting on all the time his family has spent immersed in the best the region has to offer, he and wife Suzi Davidoff decided to honor those connections by giving back to Sul Ross State University — the place that ties it all together.
Carl and Suzi are avid conservationists and share an appreciation for the beauty of West Texas landscapes.

Standing up for Texas’ farmers and ranchers

Body
As the topic of immigration and border security continues to be contentious issues, the consequences of border crime go beyond politics. One group that has been particularly affected by border-related crimes is farmers and ranchers in Texas.
