The bats were flying Saturday, April 22 when the Sul Ross Lobos took on Howard Payne in an offensive slugfest. Both teams began the game with even wins and losses in American Southwest Conference play, with an 11-13 record, but the bats would not reflect those losses in this matchup.

Alpine, I got hacked last week I have spent the last 10 days getting new personal and business bank accounts and all that entails: debit card-checks-on line banking, etc, getting my computer operational again and getting my life back together. Let me tell you that is not an easy project.

In spite of all the opposition to it, Dollar General has managed to get approval to build another store in Alpine. The most recent one is located in a residential neighborhood on the Fort Davis highway.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Vincent J. Lavallee Jr., on April 17. Vince was born the second child of four siblings to Vincent J. Lavallee Sr. and Merele Lavallee of Holyoke, Massachusetts. He was raised in Hempstead, NY, where he attended and graduated school.

Allison-Francis to wed in Marfa

Trey Allison and Taylor Francis met in the Fall of 2010 in Spanish class at the University of Texas at Austin. It was love at first sight and this weekend; they are making their love official by celebrating their matrimony in Marfa.

Salsa de Mayo fundraiser takes place May 7

The Alpine Humane Society invites everyone to their annual fundraising event to be held at the Granada Theatre on Sunday, May 7. There will be a salsa contest, a silent auction, and live music from 4 to 7 p.m.

Big Bend goes Broadway

Dr. Andrew Alegria, the music director for Sul Ross and the Big Bend Community Chorale will lead the community chorale in a performance entitled “Big Bend Broadway Bash” at the Granada Theatre on Friday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m.
