Greg McKay, Alpine: I’ve heard about the parade, and that it ends up over in Murphy Street. We are new to town, and we just got here in December. I think we will be attending the parade and going over to the festivities on Murphy Street.

Cleanup day in Brewster County

On Saturday, May 14, Brewster County will hold a cleanup day from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Alpine landfill on U.S. Highway 90, the old landfill site on Albert Road in Marathon, and the Road and Bridge yard on FM 170 in Terlingua.

With summer just around the corner, the home gardeners will be sporting dirty knees and leaving behind muddy footprints. Growing your own vegetables has witnessed a resurgence, what with increased produce prices that has led to challenges in commercial farming. This as well as a growing trend towards non-gmo foods we are seeing more people taking advantage of farmer’s markets if they lack the space or time to grow their own vegetables.

Members of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church’s Danza Matachines held a taco sale on April 22 during the City of Alpine’s annual Earth Day celebration held at Kokernot Park.
