Alpine ISD Interim Superintendent Dennis McEntire last week spoke with the Avalanche, and assured the public that rumors AISD was in turmoil because of several high-profile resignations and declining enrollment simply weren’t true.

It is nearing the end of the school year, and many students are busy wrapping it up with exams, academic and athletic competitions, and more. But for Marfa High School science students Juan Avila, Alexis Gonzales, and Aubrie Aguilar, advancing to an internationally renowned science competition and joining the elite ranks of top high school students from across the nation and the world is surely something above the ordinary.

Sunday, Christians all over the world will celebrate the resurrection of Christ. Indeed, Jesus’ victory over death is the foundational event of our faith. Because He is risen, we can live with hope, joy, and confidence in God’s love for us.

Head basketball Coach Hugh Morrissey and head volleyball/ basketball/tennis Coach Rick Garcia have both informed their student athletes they are stepping down from Alpine athletics. Both coaches will leave behind legacies.

Alpine Fightin’ Buck ace Jeremy Dominguez was excellent on April 12 against the Anthony Wildcats. He pitched 6-2/3 innings for a shutout win that moved the Bucks to 6-8 on the season. Alpine won the game 7-0, and sent four seniors off on a winning note for Senior Night.

In recent competitions, the Alpine High School Band earned a II Rating in Concert and a I Rating in Sight Reading. In the sweepstakes, Alpine Middle School earned a I Rating in Concert, and I Rating in Sight Reading.

The Alpine A’s, an adult baseball team, is seeking experienced players who are at least 28 years old for the new season that starts in late April and runs into August. Home games are held at Historic Kokernot Stadium in Alpine, and will be played at 11 a.m.
