Canaba named MVP

Body
At the recent 2021 American Southwest Conference volleyball awards, Annika Canaba was named Most Valuable Player, two others were honored, and Sul Ross was recognized as Coaching Staff of the Year. Canaba was also named to the All-Conference First Team.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Body
What are you especially looking forward to in your senior year? I am definitely looking forward toward my last year playing high school basketball. What activities are you involved in during your senior year? I am currently involved in varsity basketball, football, track, golf, and National Honor Society.

Lobos fall at home

Body
Football erased a 21-7 halftime deficit, tying the game midway through the third quarter, but fell 31-28 in a back and forth offensive affair to the visiting East Texas Baptist Tigers. The Lobos’ first drive of the game ended with a lost fumble before the defense stood tall, and forced a Tiger punt to give the offense the ball on the Lobo 44-yard line.

Quail surveys yield modest prospects

Body
Quail season began statewide Oct. 30, but outside of South Texas, bobwhite and scaled quail populations continue their long, slow recovery following several years of drought. As such, hunting opportunities and success will vary across the state.

Think about it

Body
Parents thinking of vaccinating your children, here is some information from the FDA and CDC, “But we’re never going to learn about how safe this vaccine is unless we start giving it. That’s just the way it goes.”

So what’s up at Sul Ross

Body
After several conversations with local citizens and business owners, it is clear to me that the Alpine community cannot get the fall 2021 Sul Ross enrollment statistics. This is glaringly obvious because in prior years, those statistics by campus were front page news. I would assume that local media depend on that information being provided by the university.

Thank you, veterans

Body
Nov. 11 is a day when we honor all our veterans who put on the uniform to protect our way of life, and never asked for a thank you. Many came back injured, and had to adjust to a new way of life. Remember, freedom is not free!
Thank you, veterans
