Kiwanis welcomes new officers

The Kiwanis Club of Alpine held a meeting at Sul Ross State University’s University Center where they welcomed four new officers. In the photo, Treasurer Rhonda Cole, President John Smietana, Vice President Kevin Geehan, and Secretary Noreen Geehan. Kiwanis Club members enjoyed a delicious lunch with all the fixings to celebrate the start of a new service season. Kiwanis is an organization that serves the community with fundraising activities throughout the year.

What do you think of when you hear the words Southern food? Do you conjure up visions of collard greens, fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, or something else? While I’ll admit all of those suggest a delightful vision and set my tastebuds to watering, I think of shrimp and grits. It just doesn’t get much more Southern than that.

Twin Peaks 4-H to kick off inaugural year

Now that back to school is back in session for area kids, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in hands-on projects, all while learning valuable life skills and taking active leadership roles that will follow them throughout their lives. And it’s all thanks to the Brewster County Twin Peaks 4-H Club.
