New firearms laws take effect this month

The Texas Legislature passed several laws in the recently completed session regarding the carrying of firearms. They were signed into law by the governor, and took effect Sept. 1. The laws can be very confusing, and a person would be wise to study and fully understand them before carrying in public.

The third annual Jackass Flats Dutch Oven Cookoff and Potluck will take place Oct. 8-10 at the bustling hub that is home to the Little Burro Country Store, 55 miles south of Alpine on the east side of U.S. Highway 118. This year’s cookoff brings together a host of artists and musicians, in addition to family friendly events.

Remembering 9/11

The Big Bend Sector will host its annual 9/11 event at the Alpine Border Patrol Station to remember the lives that were lost and the heroic acts that were taken on the fateful day of Sept. 11, 2001. This symbolic date was the same date of a ground breaking ceremony for the current Alpine Border Patrol Station.
