Porter’s makes it right

Body
A few weeks ago I was slightly overcharged for a few items purchased at the Porter’s Fifth Street Alpine store due to a misleading disconnect between the flyer ad and the shelf sale signs. The amount was insignificant but I pursued it, in the best spirit of Lovie Whitaker, with the store personnel and Porter’s headquarters office in Andrews, providing detail - the ad, receipt, etc.

If you are reading this piece, be advised that a meeting between the City of Alpine council members and Brewster County Commissioner’s Court did not take place July 21. What did occur was a social function, specifically the breaking of bread among friends.

Cowboys still five games out

Body
Rain canceled the first game of a two-game road series against the Garden City Wind beginning July 14. In game two, the Cowboys offense rallied out of the gate, scoring nine runs in the first inning, and finishing with a mammoth 24-2 win.

Thieves among us

Body
If you attend church or even serve in your local church body, the next time you go, make a special observation. As you see those who regularly attend or serve, notice their body language, their facial expressions, and even the tone of their voice as they speak to one another. Be looking for the fruit of the Spirit: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Gal 5:22-23).

A big thank you!

We would like to thank the community and visitors from all over the country for joining us for the 50th Fourth of July Celebration hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Alpine. We had a perfect evening after the rain.
