On Sunday, August 31, during the 11 a.m. worship service, First Christian Church, Alpine will celebrate the 135th anniversary of the congregation’s founding. The worship service will be a hymn sing and communion. The congregation will choose the hymns to be sung. After worship, the congregation will host a luncheon for those attending.

The Sul Ross Rodeo Team held its first meeting of the year on Monday, with a long list of requirements, expectations, and excitement. Coach C.J. Aragon once again leads this team of rodeo athletes, with the expectation that if they put in the work, they will see the results.

Dear Neil, I received a potted chrysanthemum last year around this time. I cut it back to four or five inches after it finished blooming and divided it into a couple of clumps. I set them into the garden and watered them. They survived the winter and are now fully developed and, I assume, ready to set buds. My problem is that they are overgrown and topheavy. What do I do?

The Alpine ISD Board of Trustees met on Wednesday, August 20, to review district progress and approve key goals for the coming school year. All board members were present, with Board President Eddie Natera presiding over the meeting.

In October 2024, Sul Ross State University and Lamar University in Beaumont began collaborating on a $3.5 million grant from the Department of Energy to establish and operate innovative research and education programs for the midstream oil and gas industry’s cybersecurity.
