Astro tourism finds a home in Big Bend

To those who have ever taken a river trip, either down the Rio Grande or other major rivers in the southwest, the night skies are a sight to behold. Add to that an informative guide who knows a bit about the cosmos we mere humans stare into in wonder, and the seed was planted for Bryan “Devo” Devonshire of Terlingua.

Early voting starts Monday

Early voting for the November 4 constitutional amendment election begins on Monday at 8 a.m. Voters can cast their ballots at the Val Clark Beard Office Complex located at 203 N. 7th Street in Alpine between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday, October 20, to Wednesday, October 29.

City mulls water, wastewater infrastructure

The Alpine City Council preceded its regular meeting with a water workshop presented by Andy Vecellio, PE of Jacob and Martin Engineers. Vecellio presented the council with the current issues the city was facing in terms of critical issues, the top two being a supply issue to the western side of the city that falls into the Sunny Glen pressure plane, and the Skyway Gardens II project, currently underway, that would not pass TCEQ requirements for pressure due to low psi in the lower hill pressure plane where it currently resides.

Last Christmas, I received the Milk Street Cookbook as a gift and discovered an intriguing recipe for chicken soup. I promised myself I’d make it once fall arrived. Now that the leaves are turning quickly, I thought I’d share it with you in case you’d like to try it too.
