Fresh, new face for Porter’s in Alpine

Body Thanks to the Porter family legacy, the basic needs for the Big Bend area have been provided for generations now. As such, Alpine has become a hub for surrounding towns and travelers.

City approves military monument

Body The City of Alpine held its regularly scheduled city council meeting on Sept. 20, and a proposed monument honoring women in the military, code enforcement issues, and a strategic plan for the city drove the discussions.

Body Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa, was a beautiful place to grow up. Lush green trees and wild game populated the bush, and the Atlantic Ocean and Mesurado River supplied endless fish. Far from the cities, families lived in very tight villages for community and safety.

Storm damaged park roads and trails reopen

Body Many of the primitive dirt roads and a portion of the paved Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive and Lost Mine Trail at Big Bend National Park have reopened following damage from heavy monsoon rains. High water flows are expected along the Rio Grande.

New growth coming up from pecan stump

Body Dear Neil: We need some help identifying and controlling this wild growth. It originated where we had a nonproducing pecan cut to the ground last winter. It came up in the spring, and has grown more rapidly than anything we have ever seen.
