Easy Caramel Sauce

Ingredients 1 cup packed brown sugar ½ cup half and half 4 tablespoons of butter Pinch of salt 1 tablespoon vanilla Directions Mix the brown sugar, half-and-half, butter, and salt in a saucepan over medium- low heat. Cook while whisking gently for five to seven minutes until it gets thicker. Add the vanilla, and cook another minute to thicken further. Turn off the heat, cool slightly, and pour the sauce into a jar. Refrigerate until cold.

Competition for ‘best bowl o’red’ begins today

The battle for the best chili officially began 55 years ago in 1967 between Frank X. Tolbert and H. Allen Smith. Organized by a Texas historian and chili aficionado Wick Fowler and Carroll Shelby of Mustang fame, they decided to settle the feud between the two journalists after months of back-andforth arguments on the merits of their ideas on good chili. Tolbert was a well-known writer for the Dallas Morning News and Smith, well, he was a New Yorker.

Council amends ordinances for boards, commissions

The City of Alpine held its regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 1, with looming questions and concerns from constituents about the removal of the Alpine Airport Advisory Board, as well as Ordinance 2022-09-02, driving public comments and the public hearing. Council member, Ward 3, Sara Tandy was absent.

Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church of Alpine Knights of Columbus will be distributing Thanksgiving boxes to those in need. They are accepting donations of canned food and other non-perishables that would be appropriate for Thanksgiving.
