Ingredients 1 cup packed brown sugar ½ cup half and half 4 tablespoons of butter Pinch of salt 1 tablespoon vanilla Directions Mix the brown sugar, half-and-half, butter, and salt in a saucepan over medium- low heat. Cook while whisking gently for five to seven minutes until it gets thicker. Add the vanilla, and cook another minute to thicken further. Turn off the heat, cool slightly, and pour the sauce into a jar. Refrigerate until cold.

Early voting for the Nov. 8 general election ends tomorrow, so there is still a small window of time for voters to get to the polls before election day.

The battle for the best chili officially began 55 years ago in 1967 between Frank X. Tolbert and H. Allen Smith. Organized by a Texas historian and chili aficionado Wick Fowler and Carroll Shelby of Mustang fame, they decided to settle the feud between the two journalists after months of back-andforth arguments on the merits of their ideas on good chili. Brewster County Commissioners Court held its regularly scheduled meeting on Oct. 25, and county Veterans Affairs Officer Adam Daley, a 23-year U.S. Army veteran, presented a quarterly report, addressing concerns made by residents and vets.
