Tourism in Big Bend contributes millions to local economy

Body A new National Park Service (NPS) report shows that in 2023, 509,000 park visitors spent an estimated $48.7 million in local gateway regions while visiting Big Bend National Park and Rio Grande Wild & Scenic River. These expenditures supported a total of 661 jobs, $18.
Hiking is a big part of visiting Big Bend National Park. Due to the desert climate, hikers must prepare by carrying plenty of water and wearing comfortable, sturdy shoes. During the late spring, summer, and early fall, hike in the early morning before temperatures reach their peak at well over 100 degrees. Photo courtesy of Visit Big Bend
