Body New Alpine business Gumslinger’s Old Fashioned Candy & Soda Pop Shop celebrates its grand opening on July 2 with a ribbon cutting. Alpine Ambassadors joined in to welcome the new business to downtown Alpine on Fifth Street.

Beloved Terlingua vet retires

Body Terlingua’s sole veterinary care provider retired July 1. Veterinarian Samuel Bottenfield, known locally as Doc Sam, has been the only public facing medical provider for pets in South County since he began his practice in the Ghost Town in 2008.
Veterinarian Samuel Bottenfield of Rio Vet Services in Terlingua tended to patient Tonka, who had a cactus thorn stuck in his paw. Bottenfield retired July 1 after over 12 years of service to the region.

Body Neil Trammell, Alpine: Well, I plan on spending it with my family. I think we’ll start with red, white, and blue pancakes. Probably grill something American for lunch. Oh, and ice cream, lots of ice cream. Then we’ll watch the fireworks in Alpine or Fort Davis.
