WEEK Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Hazel. This sweet gal has been at the shelter since November 2023. She was found stray, but it seemed like someone cared for her at some point. She appears to have had surgery on one of her legs. She has another back leg with a paw that curves under and will be having surgery to remove that leg to improve her quality of life at the first of the year.

Mobile Comunidad founders find national recognition

Recently, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) interviewed Jeanine Bishop and Vicki Gibson, founders of Mobile Comunidad about the region’s hospitality and tourism industry. The focus was on the nonprofi t group’s upcoming Mountain View Hospitality Academy in Fort Davis, whose goal is to train more locals in serving the needs of tourism in the region. Their plan is to utilize a partnership with another nonprofit and Cornell University to create the tourism academy. The article, by Texas reporter for WSJ Elizabeth Findell, ran on Christmas day.

Stokes announces she will step down from council

The Alpine City Council held its first regularly scheduled meeting of the new year in which council member Judy Stokes of Ward 1 announced that she would be stepping down from serving on the council. “After much deliberation, I have made the decision to step down, by May 2024, as Ward 1 Councilor for the City of Alpine due to personal and health reasons.
