Attention all Paisano girls’ camp campers and their parents. Paisano Girls’ Mission Camp will be held this year, June 1-5, at the Davis Mountain Resort Baptist Church just west of Fort Davis. The camp fee is $125 per person, including counselors. The camp will offer Bible Study, Missions time, music, sewing, a tea party, and other favorite activities. Girls having finished second through sixth grade are invited to come be campers, and girls having finished 7th -12th grades are invited to come be junior counselors. On the list of additional activities are movies, board games, talent spotlight, walk to the cross, and more. A nurse will be at the camp 24/7. The Alpine Fightin’ Buck Band recently competed at the Bluebonnet Classic Festival in Burnet. The band received all 1’s from the judges, which earned them the title of Outstanding Band of the Day, along with two trophies to add to their accomplishments.

On Saturday, May 16, at 1 p.m., the Big Bend Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will host a program on cactus and succulent rescue by Steven Lovecky. The event will be held at the Alpine Public Library, and it is open to the public; all are welcome.

Over 500,000 people flock to the Big Bend region annually in anticipation of spotting species like mountain lion and black bear. These apex predators are rarely seen across the rest of Texas, with minimal publicly available land or suitable habitat for either species.

Last week, the Avalanche reported that the Sul Ross Rodeo Team added five new team members to its roster. That number became much larger this week when factoring in junior college and other college transfers, as well as new high school signings. Altogether, Sul Ross has added 31 new team members thus far.
