SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Body
What are you especially looking forward to in your senior year? Even though I am in the last stretch of the year and all I have to do is wait for it to be over, the most important thing I’ve been looking forward to are the warm spring days after school when all I get to do is go to the park, be with my friends, and read. What activities are you involved in during your senior year? National Honor Society, band, cross country, one act plays, STUCO, and academic UIL.

Is your chile macho?

Body
Living in West Texas, hot sauce or salsa is a staple in most households. At least it is in mine. If I do not have at least a couple of diverse types of salsas and or hot sauce in my refrigerator, it feels as if it is almost naked. In fact, not having a spicy condiment to add to my food is as sacrilegious as not having cheese in my refrigerator.

But for many others, such as the students in Alpine High School art teacher’s Rachel Maxwell class, raising awareness of dark skies is something that can be enhanced through the creativity and talent.

I understand the purpose of this article is as a faith devotional of sorts, and certainly not a story about me personally. However due to my recent arrival to the area, I want to introduce myself. My name in Bill Cotman. I moved here on Dec. 31, 2021, to serve as pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Alpine, organized by Rev. W.B. Bloys in November 1892.

Sounds from both sides of the river

Body
In the sparsely populated area of West Texas known as the Big Bend, life takes place on a different scale. The nearest neighbor can be 40 miles away, perhaps located not just in another town but another country. In the bicultural atmosphere of the Big Bend, musicians from both sides of the Rio Grande come together, creating music that spans genre, culture, and international borders.
