Heard on the STREET

Body
Jennie Hall, Alpine: I’m from Ohio, so we used to watch the river by our house and feed the ducks. I would always go to basketball games with him, and he would say that they would only win if I came to the game with him, when I was a little kid. That was pretty cool.

PET OF THE WEEK

Body
Alpine Humane Society Pets of the Week are kittens! Like Juniper, all kittens and cats are featured during June, Adopt A Cat Month. A cat and kitten adoptions are half price at just $50. This includes spay/neuter, vaccines, and microchip. Between the Alpine Animal Shelter and at the Alpine Humane Society Thrift Store Cattery, more than 30 felines are available in all colors and sizes. Of course, kittens are always better adopted in pairs, and we have many kitten siblings ready to join your family.

Hot brown-stuffed French toast

Body
This recipe is brought to us from the folks at Food Network. The hot brown sandwich is native to the Brown Hotel in Louisville, Ky., and was created by Fred K. Schmidt in 1926 to serve as an alternative to ham and egg late-night dinners. So to see this Kentucky tradition altered might upset a few folks. But recipes are made to be expanded upon and altered to create new recipes and give rise to fresh ideas.
