PET OF THE WEEK

Body
WEEK Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Athena. Athena is looking for that special someone. She had a rough start to life, but it has not affected her sweet, affectionate, adoring personality. Gentle and kind, she loves walks and romping around the yard with the other dogs at the Shelter. She loves being the top dog, so an introduction with another dog before turning them loose to play is suggested, although she tends to get along with everyone.

Pruning roses, covering a fence

Body
Dear Neil: We have several old rose bushes that were not pruned by the former owner for the past four or five years. They’re very tall and full of dead wood. This is our first winter to be taking care of them. When and how should we prune them?
