Editor’s note: This is part two of a two-part series Last week it was announced that the City of Alpine was awarded a grant from TxDOT for the Alpine Mobility Plan. The grant money, of $191,360 would be used to conduct a study that would evaluate traffic data, non-motorized locations within the community, connectivity challenges, roadway conditions, and other factors that would help develop recommendations for short-term and longterm improvements to bicycle and pedestrian networks.

The general election results are in for the 14 constitutional amendments that were on the ballot for 2023. Out of 7,176 registered voters in Brewster County, only 19.02% voted in this general election, for a total of 1,365 ballots cast. Proposition 13 was the only amendment on the ballot that was not voted in favor of across the state. This proposition was to increase the mandatory retirement age for state judges and failed with a 62.58% vote not in favor of, for a total of 1,507,576 votes against the proposition.

Sul Ross State University has adopted a new tagline to go with its recent enrollment campaign. A pithy “Far from Ordinary” will be printed on what the college releases in hopes of continuing the increase in enrollment. Also very notable, is their offer extended to both Brewster County and the City of Alpine, which would allow them to adopt the tagline as well.

Editor’s note: This is part one of a two-part series. The Texas Transportation Commission, in a historic approval of funding, has allocated $345 million towards pedestrian and bicycle projects across the state for Texas communities.
