Two brush fires broke out last Monday, one in Sunny Glen and the other on Hwy 67 near the solar plant. Both were extinguished quickly.

The U.S. Border Patrol Big Bend sector will hold a press conference tomorrow at 9 a.m. at sector headquarters, 300 Madrid Street in Marfa, June 28 informing the public of the dangers of illegally crossing the border as well as the deployment of new technology that the sector is using.

Alpine ISD students and staff will see some major upgrades coming to their schools in the coming months thanks to a generous donation from the Prentice Farrah Brown and Alline Ford Foundation. This historic $575,000 investment will be used for capital improvement projects that will impact every Alpine ISD student and staff member.

The Brewster County Commissioner’s Court held its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 11. In the absence of Brewster County Judge Greg Henington, the meeting was conducted by Pct. 3 Commissioner Ruben Ortega.

Marathon’s soon to be eighth grader Keller Barlow set about the task of competing in the Regional History Fair at Sul Ross with boundless enthusiasm, never realizing where it all would end. According to Marathon ISD superintendent Dr. Ivonne Durant, “Keller’s passion for his subject was obvious to the other contestants from Marathon,” as they gathered in their library to give one another feedback.

The Alpine ISD Board of Trustees met for its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 18 at 5:30 p.m. Single Member District 5 board member Haley Babb was absent.
