Sul Ross’ Cameron Haumea, a native of Hawaii, claimed his second win of the season on Saturday at Sul Ross’ college rodeo. Haumea won the steer wrestling at ENMU College Rodeo last weekend and then again at the S.A.L.E. Arena with 8.7 seconds on two runs.

INGREDIENTS Two tablespoons of ghee, avocado, or olive oil (use avocado or olive oil for dairy-free) Two small zucchinis cut into thin, circular discs Half a small onion, chopped Two cloves of garlic, minced Three cups of baby spinach One and one-quarter cups of small tomatoes sliced into thin slices One tablespoon fresh, minced basil Eight eggs One-quarter cup of dairy-free almond, coconut, or oat milk Half a teaspoon salt Fresh ground pepper to taste DIRECTIONS Preheat oven to 375. To prevent sticking, grease a 9-inch pie plate or a round baking dish with one tablespoon of ghee or other oil.

Meet Leo! Leo was picked up as a stray. An owner turned up but was not financially able to care for Leo properly, so he was kept at the shelter, vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped.

SmartyRodeo, one of three corporate sponsors of the Sul Ross Rodeo Team, provided a horse-saver training tool for competitors such as those who participate in goat tying. This training tool allows student-athletes to practice and perfect their skills during everyday rodeo practice while at the same time protecting their horses from possible injury or exhaustion in the case of older animals.

October 3 Kiwanis Spaghetti Supper, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Alpine Elementary School Cafeteria. Cost is $10 and all money raised goes back into the community. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Alpine Visitor Center or at the door.
