The National Science Foundation recently selected Sul Ross State University and Southwest Texas Junior College in a partnership for the Noyce Grant. With an increasing focus on science, technology, engineering, and math majors, the $1.3 million awarded will help accelerate the ability for Sul Ross to connect with these students in several surrounding communities. The Noyce program is the first Science Foundation research project awarded to Sul Ross.

Ashley Wood, Alpine: Paper! I am old school! Amanda Kaye, Alpine: Digital books because I can have them in one place instead of having to carry them individually in a backpack. I have also been traveling a lot since classes are online right now, so it is easier to travel with my books on a laptop.

These West of the Pecos-focused classes will provide insights into biology, geology, wildlife and range management, endangered species, plants, insects, birds, aquifers, water supply, drought cycles, ranching history, Native American archaeology, and many other interconnected aspects of the natural history of West Texas.

Judd Foundation recently announced that its spaces in New York and Texas will reopen to the public for guided visits on Thursday, July 22. Guided visits will resume at a reduced schedule with limited capacity so there is space for continued social distancing.

A while back, I went to a friend’s cook-out where grilled ribeyes were on the pit. Someone brought a dish of chimichurri - a perfect addition to the potluck meal we enjoyed. Ever since eating that chimichurri on my steak, I’ve wanted more.
