Teeing off for the Bucks

It was a great day for golf as 18 teams from Alpine, Marfa, Fort Davis, and Van Horn teed off at the 2022 Alpine High School Project Graduation fundraiser golf tournament held at the Alpine Country Club on March 26. It was a huge success, and netted bragging rights to the winners in the Championship Flight and President’s Flight.

Rodeo team still in second place in region

Coach CJ Aragon’s men and women rodeo teams once again performed admirably this past weekend in Sweetwater at the Ranger College Rodeo, finishing fifth overall. This weekend he will take his six boys and four girls to Snyder, and face the Southwest Region’s No. 1 ranked team in West Texas College. The Sully boys’ squad is still in second place with 2,800 points, 1,300 ahead of Tarleton State who is in third. West Texas College has 3,780 points to lead the region, with Weatherford and Clarendon Colleges filling out the top five.

Driver arrested for human smuggling

On March 27 a Brewster County deputy observed a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling northbound pull into the southbound lane to circumvent the U.S. Highway 385 Border Patrol checkpoint. The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled north for several miles before coming to a stop.
