Creativity and dark skies awareness was celebrated by Alpine High School art students during the first annual Dark Skies Coloring Contest during the Earth Day festivities on April 22 at Kokernot Park. The students from Rachel Maxwell’s art class showed off their creativity. Student Lauren Penders, contest creator Judy Stokes, and AHS student Angelique Fox pause for a photo during the event. Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson judged the coloring book contest, with Fox coming out on top, Penders in third place winner, and Ysauel Munoz (not pictured) as runner up.

Acosta inducted to Phi Kappa Phi

Angelo State University’s chapter of the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society recently inducted its spring 2022 class of 57 new student members, including Kassandra Acosta of Alpine, during a special virtual initiation ceremony on Facebook.

Ambassadors to sponsor ribbon cuttings

Alpine Ambassadors will sponsor ribbon cuttings on April 28 at 5:30 p.m. at West Texas Italian Delicacies, 801 East Holland Avenue; Alpine Wine, 116 North Fifth Street, and Alpine Bed and Breakfast at 5:30 p.m. on May 6, both at Alpine Wine; and The Truck at 5:30 p.m. on May 7 at the corner of Holland and Fifth streets.

Boquillas to begin summer schedule

The Boquillas Port of Entry within Big Bend National Park, providing access to the town of Boquillas, Mexico, will change to the summer schedule beginning Sunday, May 1. The port will be open Friday through Monday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
