Alpine High School graduate Elena Cano of the University of Alaska Anchorage recently ran a personal-best in the 800 meter to win the heptathlon at the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships on May 2 in Bellingham, Wash.

Utilities director addresses jurisdiction concerns

The City of Alpine held a special meeting on May 10 and extra-territorial jurisdiction problems and building code issues were topics of concern addressed by Director of Public Utilities Keith Segar. Segar told council members there was an ETJ buffer zone in the city that had allowed certain businesses and city residents to obtain city services such as water, but those places were not within the city limits, thus creating a problem for the city’s utilities infrastructure.

Regency Ball coming up Saturday
