The o6 Cowboys reaffirmed their commitment to growing the game of baseball Monday morning by holding the organization’s annual Little League baseball camp. Forty-five children ages 6-12 bounded onto Kokernot Field with bats and gloves in hand, ready to learn from the Cowboys players.

Competitive boys baseball team West Texas Flying Squirrels 14U had a successful finish at the U.S. Specialty Sports Association Dallas Fort Worth World Series, placing third place for the 14U Division. A total of 99 student-athletes at Sul Ross State University have been recognized as Academic All-Conference by the American Southwest Conference for the 2021-2022 school year. Students were recognized in every conference athletic event in which Sul Ross participates.

Bear activity closes trail at national park

Effective immediately, the Window Trail in the Chisos Basin in Big Bend National Park is closed to public use until further notice. This emergency closure is due to significantly increased bear activity in the narrow trail corridor, and the safety of both the bears and the public is paramount.

Partnership program benefi ts West Texas landowners

The Borderlands Research Institute and the Texas Agricultural Land Trust are joining forces with the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service to implement landscape-scale conservation initiatives across the Trans-Pecos in West Texas. The effort is fueled by a $3.5 million commitment from the NRCS Regional Conservation Partnership Program, which will help fund innovative conservation approaches on private lands, including habitat restoration efforts, conservations easements, and ecosystem services.
