Dear Neil: For the past couple of years my potatoes have been having these lesions on their surfaces. I have switched to new beds and still have the same thing happening. It does not affect the taste of the potatoes as it’s only on the skin. I really enjoy the taste of fresh potatoes. What causes this and what can I do to stop it?

Italian Cream Cake

Ingredients: 1 stick of oleo or butter ½ cup Crisco 2 cups sugar 5 eggs, separated 2 cups flour (I recommend cake flour) Directions: Mix soda with buttermilk and set aside. Beat egg whites until very stiff and set aside.

Icing

Ingredients: 1 8-ounce package cream cheese (room temperature) 1 lb. package powdered sugar (sifted) 1 stick of oleo or butter 1 tsp. vanilla Directions: Cream oleo or butter and cream cheese until well mixed, add sugar and vanilla and mix all until there is enough to spread on the cake top and the sides.
